Joltik Box Deck Guide – Pokemon TCG

Joltik Box made an appearance in a Regionals tournament, and it ended up in the top 8. This deck has multiple attackers, like Miridon EX, Pikachu EX, and Iron Hands EX, to put pressure on the opponent, presenting multiple win conditions for them to deal with. The deck can play quickly, it can ramp Energy to speed up its game plan, and it can secure knockouts against high HP Pokémon.

Joltik Box Decklist

How to Play

Ramp Energy

We want to have Joltik in the Active spot as early as possible, attaching an Energy to it, preferably Lightning or Grass Energy to activate its Jolting Charge. Jolting Charge lets you search your deck for 2 Basic Grass Energy cards and 2 Basic Lightning Energy cards to attach to your Pokémon in any way you like. This is an extremely strong Energy ramp attack, allowing you to get your Benched Pokemon like Miraidon ex or Iron Hands ex ready to attack on the upcoming turn and start getting knockouts.

Often, you will retreat Joltik for an attacker to take its place and start putting pressure; however, if you have Galvantula, you can evolve Joltik to put a 1 Prize card attacker in play. Galvantula is great if your opponent has a Pokémon with an ability in the Active spot, activating your Compound Eyes ability to deal an additional 50 damage to that Pokémon when Galvantula attacks.

Shocking Web deals 50 damage, but if you have a Lightning Energy attached to Galvantula, you’ll deal an extra 80 damage. So, if the opponent’s Pokémon has an ability, Galvantula will deal up to 180 damage with its Shocking Web attack.

Crispin is another Energy ramp card, letting you search your deck for 2 Basic Energy, add one of them to your hand, and then attach the other Energy card to one of your Pokémon.

Attackers

Miraidon ex is a 220 HP Pokémon with the ability Tandem Unit that searches your deck for 2 Basic Lightning Pokémon and puts them on the Bench. This helps you find the Pokémon you need to start setting up your strategy. The Photon Blaster attack deals 220 damage, capable of knocking out targets and securing Prize Cards. However, when Photon Blaster is activated, you can’t attack with Miraidon ex on the upcoming turn, so it’s basically sitting there in the Active spot, tanking a hit.

You’ll have to retreat Miraidon ex and replace it with one of your other attackers so you continue posing a threat to the opponent with your attacks.

Iron Hands ex is another attacker you’ll want for the Amp Your Very Much attack. It only deals 120 damage, but getting a knockout with this attack will give you an extra Prize Card. This gets you closer to winning the game and additional resources in your hand. Amp You Very Much is expensive to set up, but with our ramp cards, we can speed up the Energy attachment to have it available as early as possible. Iron Hands ex wants to target low HP Pokemon, so you can use Prime Catcher or Boss’s Order to force a low HP Pokemon to the Active spot.

In some cases, you’ll opt for the Arm Press since it deals 40 more damage. Yes, you’re losing on the extra Prize card effect, but knocking out a win condition can be worth it.

Iron Leaves Ex is in this list for its ability, Rapid Vernier. When you play Iron Leaves Ex from your hand to the Bench, Rapid Vernier lets you switch Iron Leaves Ex with the Active Pokémon. After you switch, you can move any amount of Energy from your other Pokémon to Iron Leaves Ex. This allows you to attack with Iron Leaves Ex‘s Prism Edge immediately, dealing 180 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokémon.

After you’ve attacked with Miraidon Ex, you can go for the Iron Leaves Ex play to get another attacker in play and keep the pressure on the opposing player.

Pikachu ex is a 200 HP Pokémon that deals a high-power attack of 300 damage with Topaz Bolt. Although 200 HP might make him vulnerable, opponents can’t simply one-shot him thanks to his Resolute Heart ability. For Resolute Heart to activate, Pikachu ex needs to have full HP when Knocked Out from an attack. Instead of getting Knocked Out, Pikachu ex‘s HP becomes 10, sticking in the Active Spot for another attack or retreats to the safety of the Bench.

Pikachu ex needs three different Energy cards to activate Topaz Bolt, Grass, Lightning, and Metal Energy cards. This might not seem too tough to set up, especially when dealing 300 damage, which will knock out most Pokémon in your path. However, Topaz Bolt will discard three Energy cards on Pikachu ex. So you’re often activating Pikachu ex’s attack once in the game to one-shot a high HP Pokémon.

Support Pokemon

Latias ex‘s Skyliner ability removes the Retreat cost on your Basic Pokémon, letting you retreat them to the Bench without discarding any Energy. This saves you from attaching an Energy to retreat and is great for Iron Hands ex because of its high retreat cost. Since we run Psychic Energy, Latias ex can become an attacker, dealing 200 damage with its Eon Blade attack.

Celfairy Ex is a meta choice against Dragapult decks, giving the opponent’s Dragon Pokémon Weakness to Psychic, which makes it easier for you to one-shot their win condition.

Draw Pokemon

Mew ex‘s Restart ability acts as a draw engine, drawing you cards until you have 3 cards in your hand. So if you have a Mew ex on your Bench, you can use up the cards in your hand, drop them below 3 cards, and then draw extra cards to find what you need. Mew ex can also become an attacker with Genome Hacking, copying the opponent’s Active Pokémon’s attack. So this will be dependent on what the Pokémon has in the Active spot, but copying a high-damage attack can knock them out.

Lastly, Fezandipti ex can sit on the bench and watch over your Active Pokémon, ready to use its Flip the Script ability when one of your Pokémon is knocked out, allowing you to draw three cards. Fezandipti ex doesn’t need to be on the bench when the knockout happens—you can play it from your hand afterward and still activate Flip the Script to draw cards.

Switch Cards

The Switch cards are important to force a specific Pokémon to the Active spot and knock it out through our attack. Boss’s Order and Prime Catcher are important cards in this list to secure knockouts with Iron Hands ex‘s Amp You Very Much.
