Today, the Ravensburger announced the ban of Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere from competitive Disney Lorcana play. This ban will take effect as of April 8th, 2025, meaning these cards will not be playable in all Disney Lorcana events after that date.
This is the first time a ban has happened in Disney Lorcana to balance the competitive meta. Previously, we’ve had Bucky – Squirrel Squeak Tutor receiving an errata that completely kicked the little squirrel out of the meta. This time around, Ravensburger isn’t even interested in changing the text of the cards, an outright ban for Flaversham – Toymaker and Fortisphere to put Sapphire decks in their place.

Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker has been a key card in almost all Sapphire decks with Items as part of their strategy. He allowed ramp decks to use their card resources to gain more Ink and make stronger late-game plays without worrying about running out of steam.
Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker can banish an item to draw you two cards, acting as a draw engine to keep the plays coming. His 6 Willpower made him a difficult Character to challenge, and it forced the meta to run counter cards that can banish him through an effect. The ban doesn’t come as a surprise, especially with the recent meta domination of Sapphire Steel and Ruby Sapphire remaining a Tier 1 deck for so long.
As for Fortisphere, it’s a low-cost Item that draws you a card. It’s usually run alongside Pawpsicle, allowing you to have multiple 1-cost Items in play that enable cards like Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker, Belle – Apprentice Inventor, and Tamatoa – So Shiny!.
Pawpsicle seemed like another contender to receiving a ban, especially since it hits both Ruby Sapphire and Sapphire Steel. However, it seems like Ravensburger wants to keep Sapphire a competitive color, only hitting one of its strong low-cost Items.
