The Lorcana European Championship 2024 took place in Paris on December 7-8. The best players in Europe battled it out on the first day to make it into the top 32 and played their first game in the top cut. On the second day of the event, the top 16 players went head-to-head, their eyes locked on first place, but also to secure their spot in the Lorcana World Championship 2025. Matches in the top cut are best of 3, but the finals is a best of 5, making sure the better player takes home the first-place prize.

We had an intense best-of-five finals matchup, with Ruby Amethyst going up against Amethyst Emerald. After 5 nail-biting games, Ruby Amethyst managed to come on top winning the last matchup to take the trophy with a 3-2 score.
Ruby Amethyst uses Madam Snake and Madam Mim – Fox to synergize with Characters like Merlin – Goat and Merlin – Rabbit and generate more value. This deck can play aggressively with an early Flynn Rider – Frenemy play. However, Ruby Amethyst has the tools to control the board with cards like Be Prepared, Madam Medusa – The Boss, Brawl, and Lady Tremaine – Imperious Queen.
Genie – Wish Fulfilled has become an auto inclusion in Amethyst decks drawing you a card when he’s played and threatening to Quest for 2 Lore. The Evasive keyword makes it awkward for opponents to deal with and could keep him safe while exerted.
Elsa – The Fifth Spirit is another control Character, allowing you to exert one of the opponent’s Characters and challenge it either with Elsa – The Fifth Spirit thanks to Rush or another Character. It’s a perfect answer for Genie – Wish Fulfilled if you’re up against an Amethyst deck.
The list has 2 copies of Belle – Accomplished Mystic, allowing you to move 3 damage Counter from your Character to the opponent’s Character, allowing you to either Banish that Character or make it easier for your attackers to deal with it.
2nd Place Amethyst Emerald – Michele Assirelli
1 Banzai - Gluttonous Predator
1 Belle - Accomplished Mystic

4 Merlin - Crab
4 Merlin - Goat
3 Merlin - Rabbit
1 Peter Pan - Shadow Finder
3 The White Rose - Jewel of the Garden
4 Ursula - Deceiver
1 Ursula - Sea Witch Queen
The Amethyst Emerald had an amazing showing in the EU Championship, playing a bit aggressively early on and forcing opponents to catch up. This deck combines the bounce and discard mechanics in one deck, trying to discard key cards from the opponent’s hand while creating value by returning specific cards to your hand.
Ursula – Deciever plays a key role in this deck, giving you information on the opponent’s hand and discarding a Song. Discarding a Be Prepared can ruin the opponent’s ability to keep control of the field, giving you a better chance at winning the game.
Merlin – Goat and The White Rose – Jewel of the Garden can give you Lore just by playing them, so they could squeeze the little bit of Lore you need to win the game. Using your bounce Madam Mim cards, you can bring them back to your hand and replay them for extra Lore. Additionally, Go Go Tomago – Darting Dynamo is another method to gain extra Lore, which can help you win the game in the later stages of the game.
Similar to the Ruby Amethyst deck, Amethyst Emerald is running 4 copies of Elsa – The Fifth Spirit and 1 copy of Belle – Accomplished Mystic for extra board control options.

Ruby Sapphire had a lot of hype to make it into the top 4, but unfortunately, it fell short in the top 8 to the Ruby Amethyst decks. This is a ramp deck that uses cards like Tipo – Growing Son, Sail the Azurite Sea, and How Far I’ll Go to get more cards into your Inkwell and the stage for stronger upcoming turns.
This deck is heavy on control cards, having Brawl, Be Prepared, Sisu – Empowered Sibling, and Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon to banish opponent’s Characters and slow down their pace. The longer the games take, the better the odds are for the Ruby Sapphire deck to win. This deck doesn’t run out of steam easily, with multiple draw options, specifically Hiram Flaversham – Toymaker, you’ll continue to have options to play in the later stages of the game.
To win the game, Tamatoa – So Shiny! can generate a lot of Lore, depending on the number of items on your board. Combined with Lucky Dime, you’re not activating his Lore Quest twice, potentially winning you the game on the spot.
6th Place Ruby Sapphire – Duy Hieu Huynh

2 Merlin - Crab
4 Merlin - Goat
4 Mr. Smee - Bumbling Mate
3 Pete - Games Referee
2 Pluto - Guard Dog
2 Smash
3 The Library - A Gift for Belle
Amethyst, in general, is currently the best performer in tournaments, with different archetypes making use of the bounce mechanic and the new Genie – Wish Fulfilled card.
This list is heavy on the mid-game Characters, using Mr. Smee – Bumbling Mate, Calhoun – Marine Sergeant, Lawrence – Jealous Manservant, and Pluto – Guard Dog to present a threat on the board. Since we have multiple Characters opponents will need to Banish, The Library – A Gift for Belle makes sense in this list to draw you more cards as your Characters get banished.
Belle – Accomplished Mystic and Elsa – The Fifth Spirit are two Characters to help control the board. Belle – Accomplished Mystic can Quest for 2 Lore so opponents can’t leave her in play for too long.
1 copy of Hades – Lord of the Dead to generate extra Lore and potentially win you the game. As long as Hades – Lord of the Dead is in play, whenever any of your other Characters are banished, you gain 2 Lore.
8th Place Amethyst Steel – Douglas Auchelie
2 Calhoun - Marine Sergeant
3 Captain Hook - Forceful Duelist
4 Chernabog's Followers - Creatures of Evil
4 Diablo - Obedient Raven
3 Doc - Bold Knight
3 Fire The Cannons!
2 Gantu - Captain Crankyhead
4 Genie - Wish Fulfilled
4 Madam Mim - Fox
4 Magic Broom - Illuminary Keeper
3 Merlin - Crab
4 Merlin - Goat
4 Mr. Smee - Bumbling Mate
2 Pete - Games Referee
2 Smash
1 Strength of a Raging Fire
3 The Queen's Castle - Mirror Chamber
2 The White Rose - Jewel of the Garden
4 Tinker Bell - Fast Flier
2 Tinker Bell - Giant Fairy
The other Amethyst Sapphire list looks a bit different, using cards like Gantu – Captain Crankyhead for the insane 4 Lore he gives you when he Quests. If Gantu – Captain Crankyhead manages to stick in play, you’ll set yourself to win the game with the extra 4 Lore you gain.
2 copies of Tinker Bell – Giant Fairy, perfect for controlling the board and creating a threat that forces resources from the opponent to deal with.
