Yellow Kalgara Deck Guide OP08 – One Piece Card Game

The new OP08 Kalgara Leader is dominating the competitive scene early in the OP08 meta, securing several tournament victories already!

This Yellow deck introduces a refreshing approach, adopting an aggressive play style with Kalgara utilizing Life Resource to develop the board.

Leader

When Attacking, Kalgara can play a Character with the {Shandorian Warriors} type with a cost equal to or less than the number of Don!!! you control for 1 Don.

The characters to play are Wiper and 6-cost Kalgara. At 4 Don, you can start deploying {Shandorian Warriors} Characters for just 1 Don, while Leader Kalgara launches boosted attacks.

Remember that every time you activate this effect, it reduces your Leader’s Life by 1, so avoid dropping too low on Life Cards in the late game.

Sky Plan

Holly and Ohm collaborate to create a wide board of attackers. Ohm can search the top 5 cards of your deck, and if you find Holly, it’s a free draw and board development. If Holly is already in hand, Ohm can still play it even if it’s not among the top 5 cards.

Satori is primarily a Trigger card that you rarely want to spend 5 Don to play. It’s more valuable as a +2,000 Counter or for its Trigger effect.

Sky Searchers

Shura and Upper Yard are excellent for setting up your turns. They can find Sky Island cards to plan ahead or use as Counters. Additionally, you can play Upper Yard without spending any Don through the 4-cost Wiper.

The Combo

Kalgara is your strongest play, a 6-cost 8,000 Power Character. Despite being a Vanilla card, its synergy with Montblanc Norland boosts its value.

At Don 6/7, use the Leader ability to play Kalgara, giving Don to Leader and losing 1 Life. This allows you to play Kalgara for free and then follow up with Montblanc Norland to regain 1 Life Card.

In one turn, you establish a strong board presence and gain a Life Card with Montblanc Norland.

Immediate Impact

Nami can trash 1 Trigger card from hand to KO a cost 5 or less character. She’ll be our removal card to control the board and we have a bunch of Trigger cards in the deck we can trash. If we’re down to 3 cards in hand, Nami will draw us a card, basically giving us a card in return for the card she trashed.

So we’re usually looking to play Nami when we have a total of 5 cards in hand. With Nami being played and trashing a card, she’ll drop our hand to 3 cards, activating her second effect and drawing a card.

5-cost Portgas.D.Ace is a Rush attack to present a threat on the turn he’s played immediately. We have to be at 2 Life Cards for him to gain Rush.

Wiper Searcher

Both can search for Upper Yard. 5-cost Wiper can remove a stage in play, which is useful against decks like Sakazuki or Vinsmoke Reiju. He can also find you a {Shandian Warrior} type card to draw.

Turn-Based Gameplay

Going First

  • Turn 1 (1 Don): Upper Yard to find a {Sky Island} Card like Holly.
  • Turn 2 (3 Don): If we don’t have Ohm in hand, Holly can be a play here. If we don’t have either Shura is an option and we attack with Leader for 6,000 Power.
  • Turn 3 (5 Don): 4-cost Wiper and give 1 Don to Leader to play 5-cost Wiper for free.
  • Turn 4 (7 Don): 2 Don to Leader and play Kalgara for free. Follow it up with Montblanc Norland for an extra Life Card. If there’s something we need to KO, we can go for a Nami play here.
  • Turn 5 (9 Don): 5-cost Portgas.D.Ace to present a Rush attacker.

Going Second:

  • Turn 1 (2 Don): Shura or Upper Yard.
  • Turn 2 (4 Don): Ohm + Holly or Holly + 1 Don to Leader to play 4-cost Wiper.
  • Turn 3 (6 Don): 1 Don to Leader and play Kalgara for free. Follow it up with Montblanc Norland for an extra Life Card. If there’s something we need to KO, we can go for a Nami play here.
  • Turn 4 (8 Don): We’re looking to keep developing the board here and have threats on the board. We want to use Leader’s ability to play something for free.
  • Turn 5 (10 Don): 5-cost Portgas.D.Ace to present a Rush attacker.

Other Cards

  • S-Snake can prevent one of the opponent’s characters with a cost of 6 or less from attacking, slowing down opponent’s upcoming turn.
  • Genbo is a 3-cost {Shandian Warrior}, increasing our chances of finding a {Shandian Warrior} through our searchers, and can also be played on turn 2 through Leader ability.
  • 10-cost Portgas.D.Ace is a carry card, giving us a Life Card, and can go for an attack with his Rush ability.
