How to Play
Leader
Attaching 1 Don to Roronoa Zoro activates his effect, giving all Characters on the field +1K Power boost. This effect becomes increasingly powerful with a larger field, enhancing Leader Roronoa Zoro‘s ability to apply pressure through boosted aggression. We aim to activate this effect whenever possible to compel the opponent into using their Counter cards.
This deck emphasizes relentless attacks, primarily targeting the opponent’s Leader to quickly reduce them to one Life Card. This strategy sets up opportunities for two decisive attacks using both the Leader and a Rush attacker, potentially securing the win.
We are less concerned about opponents attacking our Leader, as they will typically be more preoccupied with managing our field rather than aggressively pushing to end the game.
Early Game
This deck excels at developing multiple Characters per turn and boosting their Power to launch attacks on the opponent’s Leader. By maintaining several rested Characters, you can overwhelm your opponent, making it difficult for them to address all threats simultaneously. Ensuring at least one Character survives can set up a crucial second attack.
Since we play multiple cards per turn, searchers are crucial for maintaining a steady flow of future plays. Nami helps by finding a {Straw Hat Crew} Character like 3-cost Roronoa Zoro or Tony Tony Chopper. Dr. Kureha specifically draws a {Tony Tony Chopper} Character, and with 12 in the deck, we have a good chance of finding one. If we don’t draw Tony Tony Chopper, we can still pull useful cards like Hiking Bear, Robson, and “Shut Up and Come With Us!”.
All these 1-cost Characters benefit from the Leader’s effect, gaining a 1000 Power boost, which easily turns them into effective aggressors, especially when combined with our Power boost cards.
Makino boosts the power of one of your 1-cost Characters by +3K. It can be used on cards like Nami, Buggy, and Dr. Kureha.
Hiking Bear can also provide a +1000 Power buff, but only to an {Animal} type Character.
Both Makino and Hiking Bear serve as +2000 Counter cards, but Makino stands out as an easy card to play for her significant Power boost, amplifying your deck’s aggression.
Going Wide
The Tony Tony Choppers are the newest addition to the Roronoa Zoro list in the OP08 meta. Each Chopper serves a unique purpose, but we focus primarily on the ones that provide the resource value.
‘The first Tony Tony Chopper, with 3,000 Power, can play an {Animal} type Character with 3,000 Power or less. So Characters like Hiking Bear or Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops can be played for free.
The second Tony Tony Chopper, with 5,000 Power, has a play effect that allows you to look at the top 5 cards of your deck and play one {Animal} type Character with 4000 Power or less in a rested state. This enables you to deploy one of the other two Choppers, Robson, or Hiking Bear. If this Tony Tony Chopper attacks, he can reactivate his effect, allowing you to develop another {Animal} type Character.
The other two Choppers require attaching Don to activate their effects. One lets you trash a card to retrieve a 4-cost or less {Straw Hat Crew} Character from your trash, such as Nami for value or 3-cost Roronoa Zoro for aggression. Since you need to trash a card for this effect, choose a card you are unlikely to play, with Diable Jambe often being a suitable candidate.
The last Chopper, a blocker, protects your Leader or Characters and can, with 2 attached Don, lower the Power of an opponent’s Character by -3000. This ability helps you weaken a Blocker or KO a rested Character more easily.
Rush attackers are invaluable for delivering immediate aggression, and with Leader Zoro‘s +1000 Power boost, they become significant threats that demand your opponent’s Counter resources.
Roronoa Zoro and Robson are cost-effective rush attackers, although Robson requires 2 Don attachments to activate Rush and has less Power compared to Roronoa Zoro.
Kid & Killer is your strongest rush attacker when you fall to 2 Life cards. The 5,000 Power Character gains a 2,000 Power boost when it goes for the attack, making it difficult for opponents to counter its attack.
5-cost Monkey.D.Luffy works best as a finisher if the opponent is down to 0 Life cards with a blocker on the field. If you attach 2 Don to Monkey.D.Luffy, he can ignore blockers and attack their Leader directly uninterrupted to win you the game.
Monkey D. Dragon is the strongest Rush attacker in this deck, boasting a 9000 Power attack. Additionally, he can attach 2 rested Don to your Leader or one of your Characters. This allows you to play Monkey D. Dragon with 8 Don and still activate Leader Roronoa Zoro‘s +1000 Power boost.
Silvers Rayleigh is a slow play but can weaken two of the opponent’s Characters by reducing their Power. He can also KO a 6,000 Power Character (After the cost-reduction) and we’re usually aiming to remove a Blocker so our attackers can strike the opponent’s Leader.
Events
Just Shut Up and Come with US!!!! is a search card to play a Tony Tony. Chopper during your defensive turn. You need to hold 1 Don to play it and expect the opponent to attack so you can activate the Counter card.
Diable Jambe is an answer for a blocker on the opponent’s side of the field. We want to play it when setting up the finisher play and give it a high-power attacker.
Turn-Based Gameplay
Going First
- Turn 1 (1 Don): 1-cost Searcher.
- Turn 2 (3 Don): Attack with Leader and develop more on the board. A 3-cost Tony Tony.Chopper that plays an {Animal} type Character is the best play here.
- Turn 3 (5 Don): 3-cost Development and 1 Don to Leader. We’ll have 1 Don left to either buff one of our attackers or play Makino or a Searcher. Can save 1 Don to play Just Shut Up and Come with US!!!!
- Turn 4 (7 Don): Give at least 1 Don to Leader for the Power boost and continue developing your board. Attack with your Characters to force resources. Can save 1 Don to play Just Shut Up and Come with US!!!!
- Turn 5 (9 Don): Monkey.D.Dragon for the added aggression with the Rush attack. Silvers Rayleigh if there’s a Character you need to KO like a blocker. Can save 1 Don to play Just Shut Up and Come with US!!!!
- Turn 6 (10 Don): Either a high-cost Character like Monkey.D.Dragon to keep up the aggression or your other rushers.
Going Second
- Turn 1 (2 Don): Develop 2 1-cost Characters.
- Turn 2 (4 Don): Attack with Leader and develop more on the board. A 3-cost Tony Tony.Chopper that plays an {Animal} type Character is the best play here.
- Turn 3 (6 Don): 3-cost Development and use Leader effect to set up an aggressive turn with your Characters. Can save 1 Don to play Just Shut Up and Come with US!!!!
- Turn 4 (8 Don): Monkey.D.Dragon for the added aggression with the Rush attack. Silvers Rayleigh if there’s a Character you need to KO like a blocker.
- Turn 5 (10 Don): Either a high-cost Character like Monkey.D.Dragon to keep up the aggression or your other rushers.
Other Cards to Include
- Buggy, though potentially clunky because he only draws Events—and with just 6 Events in the deck—still serves a purpose. As a 1-cost, 3000 Power attacker, Buggy can be used aggressively in later turns.
- Radical Beam!! is to protect your Leader and can be drawn through Buggy
- Bad Manners Kick Course is a 0-cost Counter Event to protect your Leader with its +3,000 Power. You have multiple cards with no Counter effect, so you can trash them with Bad Manners Kick Course.
