Red Green Monkey D. Luffy Deck Guide – One Piece Card Game

Red Green Monkey D.Luffy is one of the earliest Leaders in the One Piece Card Game! This Leader can play aggressively with his effect, letting you restand a Character and attack with it a second time.

The deck changed a lot over different metas, and right now, the popular list is the Zoo build, using Tony Tony Choppers and {Animal} type Characters to develop multiple Characters on the field and go for aggressive attacks to pressure the opposing player. Another list runs the {Supernovas} package, but for this guide, we’ll focus on the Zoo list.

Leader

OP01-003

Red Green Luffy is a 4 Life card Leader with an effect that costs 4 Don to activate, allowing you to restand a {Supernovas} or {Straw Hat Crew} type Character with a cost of 5 or less to attack with it a second time and gives it +1,000 Power. So if you’re boosting the Power of a specific Character, you can attack with it twice in one turn, allowing you to crank up the aggression and potentially set up the winning line.

We have a couple of cards that synergize with our Leader’s effect. OP08 Tony Tony Chopper, Kid & Killer, and Gum Gum Giant Pistol synergize with your Leader’s effect, getting more value from them.

How to Play

This deck is trying to go wide on the field through cards like OP08 Tony Tony Chopper and Just Shut Up and Come with Us!!!!, pressuring the opposing player with multiple attacks and dropping them low on Life cards. The main goal is to drop the opponent down to 1 Life card and then set up the Gum Gum Giant Pistol + Leader effect on one of your Characters to go for two high-power attacks and close out the game.

Nami Searchers

EB02-017
OP01-016

The 1-cost Nami searchers look at the top 5 cards in our deck and let you add 1 {Straw Hat Crew} type Character, helping you find the cards you need for your strategy.

The Wide Plan

We have multiple cards that help us develop Characters on the field, adding more aggression and forcing the opposing player to go for a defensive strategy.

EB01-009

Just Shut Up and Come with US!!!! is a search card to play an OP08 Tony Tony. Chopper during your defensive turn. You need to hold 1 Don to play it and expect the opponent to attack so you can activate the Counter card. You’re potentially developing two Characters during your opponent’s turn for 1 Don, lining up an aggressive upcoming turn.

OP02-040

Brook can cheat out 1 {FILM} or {Straw Hat Crew} type Characters with a cost of 3 or less. So your play is to cheat out OP08 Tony Tony. Chopper, which in turn will cheat out another Character. You’re developing at least 3 Characters for 4 Don, which can be too difficult for your opponent to keep up with, and will struggle to KO all of them.

OP04-010
OP08-007

The OP04 Tony Tony Chopper, with 4,000 Power, can play an {Animal} type Character with 3,000 Power or less. So it can play Hiking Bear for free. It’s less versatile than the OP08 version, but still plays its role in the going wide strategy.

As for the OP08 Tony Tony Chopper, with 5,000 Power, he has a play effect that allows you to look at the top 5 cards of your deck and play one {Animal} type Character with 4000 Power or less in a rested state. This enables you to deploy one of the other two Choppers or Hiking Bear. If this Tony Tony Chopper attacks, he can reactivate his effect, allowing you to develop another {Animal} type Character.

So you’re gaining an extra card since the Character you’re playing isn’t from your hand but from the deck, while also playing it on the field, making OP08 Tony Tony Chopper your stronger play in this deck. Your opponents will almost always focus down the OP08 Chopper, and whenever possible, you’ll try to protect him and gain more value from his effect.

Since Tony Tony Chopper‘s effect doesn’t say “Once per turn”, we can activate Leader effect to restand Chopper and attack with him a second time, activating his effect again and cheating out another Character in one turn.

OP08-010
EB01-006
OP09-029

Attaching a Don to Hiking Bear lets you give +1,000 Power to one of your Animal-type Characters, creating more aggression with the additional Power gain.

The EB01 Chopper is a blocker, protecting your Leader or Characters, and can, with 2 attached Don, lower the Power of an opponent’s Character by -3000. This ability helps you weaken a Blocker or KO a rested Character more easily.

As for OP09 Chopper, he can restand himself at the end of your turn, making it harder for the opposing player to remove him.

ST12-003

Situational, but Dracule Mihawk can cheat out Brook, allowing you to go wide on the field on Don 3 (turn 2 if you’re going second).

Rush Attack

EB01-003

Kid & Killer becomes a 7,000 Power Rush attacker if your opponent has 2 Life cards or less. Since Kid & Killer is a {Supernovas} type Character, you can restand him with your Leader Luffy’s effect for a second attack. Kid & Killer is the perfect play for an extremely aggressive turn; perfect if your opponent is at 1 Life card.

Power Boost

EB02-021

Gum Gum Giant Pistol gives one of your Characters +6,000 Power for the turn, but that Character won’t become Active on your upcoming turn. So we’re using this Event to go a high-power attack to pressure the opponent’s Leader and win the game. Combined with your Leader Luffy‘s effect, you can go for two high-power attacks to win the game.

Gum Gum Giant Pistol‘s trigger effect lets you rest one of the opponent’s 4-cost or less Characters, so it can be used defensively if you need to shut down one attacker.

Sanji Dodge

ST21-003

The ST21 Sanji can be used for his On Play effect, letting you choose a Character with 6,000 Power or more, and during this turn, that selected Character can’t be blocked. So now you have a great finisher to win you the game on the spot if your opponent is at 0 Life cards.
