Oricorio Magnezone Deck Guide – Pokemon TCG Pocket

Oricorio Magnezone is one of the strongest decks in A3 Pokémon Pocket meta, performing well in tournaments on the ranked ladder! This deck has a consistent game plan, using Oricorio as an early stall/attacker as you build your Stage 2 Magnezone to carry the late-game.

This is a single-point deck, meaning your opponent has to knock out 3 of your Pokémon to win the game.

Oricorio Early

A3-066

Oricorio will be the early attacker, dealing 50 damage with Zzzap attack. It’s not the strongest attack, and Oricorio being 70 HP doesn’t make it durable to most attacks. However, Oricorio‘s Safeguard is the main reason why this Pokémon is a strong choice in lightning decks. Its ability to prevent damage dealt to it by Pokémon ex will make things challenging for the opposing player.

Against decks with only ex Pokemon, you’re pretty much winning the game on the spot, dealing 50 damage each turn as your opponent watches you helplessly, unable to retaliate to your attacks. We also have a couple of cards to protect Oricorio from easily getting knocked out by Ability damage, making sure it stays in play for as long as possible.

However, if you’re up against a no-ex Pokemon, then Oricorio will be at a disadvantage, and most of the time, it will end up losing the fight.

Magnezone Carry

A2-053

Unlike most Stage 2 decks, we are not running Rare Candy in this list! That’s because we want to have Magneton in play to activate its Volt Charge and ramp Lightning Energy. This allows us to use Oricorio aggressively while still getting Energy on our Magnezone for the late-game carry.

Once we evolve into Magnezone, we can use its Thunder Bolt attack to deal 110 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokémon, which can knock out a high HP Pokémon if we’ve already damaged it with Oricorio. However, Thunder Bolt will discard all Energy from Magnezone, so it’s a one-time attack only to close out the game or remove an opponent’s win condition.

Draw Cards

A2-146

Poke Ball can draw Oricorio or Magnemite, ensuring you can evolve your Pokémon as early as possible.

Professor’s Research is a Supporter card that draws 2 cards. Since it’s a Supporter card, you want to play it early in the game, since you’ll want to play your other Supporters in the late game.

Pokémon Communication is mainly to help us find Magneton or Megnezone to get our late-game win condition online as early as possible.

Tools

A2-147

Giant Cape gives +20 HP to your Pokémon, which can be attached to your Pokémon to make them harder targets for the opponent to knock out.

Battle Cards

A3-151

Potion can heal your Pokémon and keep them from getting knocked out easily. If Oricorio is in the Active spot, your opponent will have to rely on their non-ex Pokémon to damage Oricorio, which means they’ll be dealing less overall damage. Potion will keep Oricorio longer in the Active spot until you win the game.

Guzma can discard all of the opponent’s Tools attached to their Pokémon. If they have 2 or more, you’re gaining a lot of value from Guzma, but even discarding one tool is usually worth it. You’re mostly worried about tools like Rocky Helmet or Poison Barb dealing damage back to your Oricorio, so you’ll want to remove them.

Switch

A1-225
A2-150

Sabrina and Cyrus are great to pull a less threatening Pokémon to the Active spot or one you want to KO through an attack and remove it from the game. They can be the reason you win games by pulling an important Pokémon to the Active spot and closing out the game.

Other Cards to Include

A2b-070
  • Pokémon Center Lady heals one of your Pokémon for 30 damage, making sure it doesn’t get knocked out on the upcoming turn. It also removed any special conditions on your Pokémon, which can come in handy against certain decks.
