Learn everything you need to know about rules, keywords, and how to play Pokemon TCG Pocket!

Pokémon TCG Pocket is a fun mobile card game where you can battle other players or take on AI opponents with your own unique decks. It’s a hit with not just competitive players but also collectors who love the exclusive Pokémon artwork you can find in the game.

Even though Pokémon TCG Pocket is simpler than the physical card game, there are still rules and keywords to learn, which can get a little confusing. Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with an easy guide to explain all the keywords and how they work!

Poisoned

  • A Poisoned Pokémon takes 1 damage counter (10 HP) during each Pokémon Checkup. Poison can stack with other Special Conditions. The Poison condition remains until the Pokémon is evolved or retreated.

Paralyzed

  • Paralyzed Pokémon cannot attack or retreat. After its owner’s next turn, it recovers during Pokémon Checkup.

Asleep

  • Asleep Pokémon cannot attack or retreat. The player whose Pokémon is Asleep flips a coin during each Pokémon Checkup. If heads, the Pokémon recovers. If tails, it stays Asleep.

Burned

  • A Burned Pokémon takes 2 damage counters (20 HP) between each checkup. The player whose Pokémon is Burned flips a coin during each Pokémon Checkup, and if heads, the Pokémon recovers from being Burned. If tails, the Pokémon stays Burned. Burn can stack with other Special Conditions.

Confused

  • When a Confused Pokémon attacks, the owner must flip a coin. If heads, the attack works normally, but if tails, the attack doesn’t happen and the player’s turn ends.

Note: Asleep, Paralyzed, and Confused cannot stack with each other. If one of these Special Conditions is applied, it replaces any of the others. If one Pokémon is affected by multiple Special Conditions, Special Conditions are checked in the following order: 1. Poisoned 2. Burned 3. Asleep 4. Paralyzed.

Only the Active Pokémon can be affected by these Conditions. Pokémon recover from Special Conditions if one of the following conditions are met:

  • The Pokémon moves to the Bench
  • The Pokémon evolves.
  • A card effect that can recover a Condition is used.
