Charizard Moltres Decklist

How to Play

Early Moltres ex

Moltres ex is a Basic type Pokemon, so you have a 50% chance of drawing him your starting hand. You want Moltres ex in the Active spot as early as possible, attach a Fire Energy on him to activate Inferno Dance. Inferno Dance is ramp ability, letting you flip 3 coins and for each Heads, you can attach a Fire Energy to your Benched Fire Pokemon.

If you start with Charmander in the Active spot, you can use X-Speed to retreat it and get Moltres ex to the Active spot. Once your Charizard ex is in play, you can retreat Moltres ex to prevent opponents from knocking him out easily and rely on Charizard ex to carry the game. Potion’s 20 HP healing is useful here to ensure Moltres ex isn’t knocked out easily.

Charizard ex Carry

You want to have Charmander on the Bench as early as possible to get Fire Energy on him through Moltres ex‘s Inferno Dance. Poke Ball helps you find Charmander if he’s not in your hand early in the game.

We aren’t looking to attack with Charmander because he discards Fire Energy, which will put us behind on the Charizard ex win condition. Charizard ex is a Stage 2 Pokemon, so we still have to evolve Charmander into Charmeleon before getting Charizard ex in play.

Charizard ex‘s 180 HP makes him a tanky Pokemon, difficult for opponents to remove easily. His Crimson Storm deals 200 damage, knocking out any Pokemon in the opponent’s Active spot. This attack requires 4 Energy and will discard 2 Fire Energy when activated. This means if we have exactly 4 Energy attached to Charizard ex, you won’t be able to activate it on the upcoming turn.

So having at least 5 Energy on Charizard ex before going for the Crimson Storm attack ensures you can activate it twice in a turn, Knocking out two of the opponent’s Pokemon with ease.

Other Pokemon

Rapidash can join early into the game and start attacking with Fire Mane, dealing 40 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokemon. Rapidash only needs 1 Fire Energy to attack, so you don’t have to commit too much to it.

Charizard ex Moltres Weaknesses

  • If you don’t have Moltres ex in the Active spot as early as possible, you’ll struggle to power up Charizard ex quickly.
  • Since Charizard ex is a Stage 2 Pokemon, you might end up not finding the Pokemon you need to evolve, slowing down your Strategy.
