Green Black Perona OP09 Deck Guide – One Piece Card Game

Green Black Perona is capable of resting Characters for you to attack and KO. Learn all you need to know about Leader Perona in our guide!

Green Black Perona is a control-type deck, combining Black’s cost-reduction effect with Green’s defensive capabilities and control cards. This is a fun deck to pick up and has netted itself a couple of tournament wins in OP09 meta. It’s not the top meta deck, but if you want to break out the meta and play something different, Green Black Perona is the deck to go for.

This deck can be built differently, going for a defensive playstyle or a more aggressive playstyle with Characters that pose an immediate threat the turn they’re played. I’ll cover the recent list that performed in the East meta, but I’ll also share cards at the end of the article that you can add to the list to change up its play style.

How to Play Green Black Perona

Leader Green Black Perona

Green Black Perona‘s effect lets you choose one of two abilities: rest 1 of your opponent’s Characters with a cost of 4 or less or give 1 of your opponent’s Characters – 1 cost for the turn.

The first effects lets us rest Characters, making them vulnerable to our attacks or to KO effects like Ryuma. Combined with cost-reduction cards, Leader Perona can rest higher-cost Characters to KO.

We’ll usually go for the rest effect, but the -1 cost-reduction can come to use. If the opponent already had a rested Character in play, we can reduce its cost with the Leader effect to help put it in range for our KO cards.

The plan with this deck is to make sure opponents don’t overtake the field, slowly gaining an edge with the value this game creates.

1-cost Draws

Otama and Kouzuki Momonosuke can look at the top 5 cards in your deck and draw you a {Land of Wano} type Character. You will need to use up a Don to activate Kouzuki Momonosuke‘s effect and rest him. This forces the opposing player to attack Kouzuki Momonosuke so they prevent you from reactivating the draw effect.

The opponent is forced to attack Kouzuki Momonosuke, so if they don’t have a low-cost Character to attack it this means that’s one less attack you have to worry about targeting your leader.

You can be my Samurai rests two Characters to draw 2 cards. So you’ll want to have Characters in play to rest without compromising your offensive power. So 1-cost Characters are great targets to rest since you don’t want to attack with them anyway. Characters like One-Legged Toy Soldier and Kouzuki Hiyori are other options to rest before activating their effects.

KO Characters

Brook lowers the cost of one of the opponent’s Characters by -1 and then KO’s a 0-cost Character. So you want to combine him with cost-reduction effects to KO Characters. When he goes for the attack, he reactivates his effect, giving a Character -1-cost and KOing a 0-cost Character again. So opponents can’t afford to leave him in play for too long.

As for Ryuma, he synergizes with your Leader effect, KOing a 4-cost rested Character. So if there’s no rested Character for Ryuma to KO, you can use the Leader effect to rest a Character and get value from Ryuma‘s effect. Additionally, Ryuma On KO lets him KO a 4-cost rested Character, which might force opponents to play differently during their turn.

Kouzuki Hiyori is a key part of the deck’s combo strategy. She can be trashed to play a 5-cost or less {Land of Wano} type Character and then draws you a card. So with this list, you can play Ryuma through Kouzuki Hiyori.

In hindsight, this doesn’t seem too useful, since you’re losing Kouzuki Hiyori to draw a card. However, you can rest her through You can be my Samurai to draw cards and then activate her effect to play a Ryuma in the Active state.

Also, she makes the combo with Leader’s resting effect and Gecko Moria work. You can hold off on playing Ryuma immediately through Gecko Moria by getting Kouzuki Hiyori from the Trash, resting a Character with the Leader effect, and then playing Ryuma through Kouzuki Hiyori‘s effect.

This sequencing is important because you might need a cost-reduction Character through Gecko Moria before you can activate Leader Perona‘s resting effect. So you hold off Ryuma until you put a Character in range for Perona to rest and then Ryuma joins in to KO.

I’ll explain more about how things work in the Gecko Moria section.

Cost-reduction

Tsuru is a 1-cost Characters that reduces the cost of one of the opponent’s Characters by -2. She’s also a +2,000 Counter, so you can use her to protect yourself from an attack. Tsuru can be played again from the Trash using Gecko Moria, so if you need a cost-reducer, she comes to use when you go for the Gecko Moria combo.

One-Legged Toy Soldier is another +2,000 Counter Character. However, its Activate: Main effect lets trash it to reduce the cost of the opponent’s Character by -3.

Ice Age makes specific turns way easier, especially when dealing with a high-cost Target. A -5 cost reduction Event for only 1 Don puts a lot of stress off your shoulders when putting a specific Character in range for your removal.

Bird Cage Strategy

This list has two copies of the 8-cost Eustass”Captain”Kid for the Fortress game plan. Whenever there’s Eustass”Captain”Kid on a list he has to have Donquixote Rosinante along with it. On Don 9, you want to go for Eustass”Captain”Kid, attach 1 Don, rest him, and cheat out a Donquixote Rosinante.

As long as you have Eustass”Captain”Kid in rest mode, your opponent is forced to attack only him, shutting them off from attacking your Leader or rested Characters. The 8,000 Power on Eustass”Captain”Kid makes him difficult to KO through sheer attacks, but even if they manage to create a high-power attack, your blockers can take the hit instead of Eustass”Captain”Kid, keeping the Fortress gameplay online.

Donquixote Rosinante is extremely valuable because if the opponent tries to KO Eustass”Captain”Kid through a KO effect, Donquixote Rosinante can trash itself to keep Eustass”Captain”Kid in play.

5-cost Sabo is a valuable blocker to protect your Leader or rested Characters. It can also help protect your Fortress strategy. The KO immunity it gives to all Characters in play can shut off specific decks from interacting with your field, setting you up for a strong upcoming turn. Sabo also draws 2 and trashes 2 cards, filtering your hand.

Gecko Moria Value

Gecko Moria is a value card, which lets you play two Characters: a 4-cost or less Character and a 2-cost or less Character. So if you want to KO a Character, Ryuma is the play. The second Character you play can be a cost-reducer like One-Legged Toy Soldier. However, we have a problem here without combo play. Since Ryuma is an On Play effect, you won’t be able to use One-Legged Toy Soldier‘s Activate: Main effect. On top of that, if you want to rest a high-cost Character, you need the cost reduction to go through first, use Leader Perona to rest a Character, and then activate Ryuma‘s KO effect.

So to solve this, you play Kouzuki Hiyori through Gecko Moria, activate One-Legged Toy Soldier, Perona’s resting effect, and then activate Kouzuki Hiyori to play a Ryuma from your hand and KO a Character.

Big Plays

9-cost Shanks can KO a rested Character, the cost of that Character doesn’t matter. So if the opponent has a high-cost Character in Rest mode, Shanks is perfect to join the field and KO it. If you need to, you can rest a Character with Leader Perona for Shanks to KO, and with the cost-reduction cards, you can rest higher-cost Characters for Shanks to KO.

Shanks is also an 11,000 Power Character, so he’s tough to remove and goes for heavy attacks too difficult to Counter.

  • Turn 5 (9 Don): Gecko Moria or Eustass”Captain”Kid or Shanks.
  • Turn 6 (10 Don): Gecko Moria or Eustass”Captain”Kid or Shanks.

Going Second

  • Turn 2 (4 Don): Rest with Leader effect and Ryuma to KO or Kouzuki Hiyori into Ryuma.
  • Turn 3 (6 Don): Cost reduction + rest with Leader effect and Ryuma to KO or Kouzuki Hiyori into Ryuma. OR One-Legged Toy Soldier + Brook.

Other Cards to Include

  • 7-cost Jack can rest himself to KO a 3-cost Character. You will also draw a card and trash a card, so you’ll filter your hand for better cards. Jack gains +4-cost when played, making him difficult to KO with effects that rely on the cost of a Character. Jack can activate his effect once per turn, so he continues to give you value throughout the game.
  • Laboon can rest himself to give one of the opponent’s Characters -4 cost. This effect can be activated once per turn, so opponents will try to remove Laboon from play.
  • 9-cost trashes 1 of your cards to activate his effect, allowing you to KO a 7-cost Character. Additionally, Kaido will force opponents to trash a card from their hand, so even though you lost a card from your hand, opponents are also losing a card, balancing things out.
  • During your turn, 10-cost Kuzan gives all the opponent’s Characters -5 cost. His On Play effect KO’s a 0-cost Character, so technically he can KO a 5-cost Character when played. With Leader Perona‘s effect, you can KO a 6-cost Character with Kuzan. The -5 cost will make things easier for you to KO on future turns if Kuzan remains in play.
  • 9-cost Roronoa Zoro is a win condition. If he stays in play for one turn, you can attack with Roronoa Zoro 3 times in one turn, potentially winning the game on the post or bleeding the opponent from resources and setting you to win the game on the upcoming attack turn.
