Dragon’s Dogma 2 Receives Negative Reviews

Capcom’s newest title, Dragon’s Dogma 2, received much praise when launched globally for its awesome graphics and fighting gameplay. The game is still in its honeymoon stage, and players continue to explore Dragon’s Dogma 2.

However, as players got to experience the game more, they quickly discovered some underlying issues. This caused an uproar in Steam’s review section, with many players sharing their negative experiences.

Low PC Performance

The minimum GPU requirement to run Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 / AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (8GB). However, players with an RTX 4060 were averaging 47 fps at 1080p with high quality, and dropping it down to low quality only bumped the fps to 49.

The game dropped in performance whenever a player went near a settlement, this caused fluctuations in fps, ruining the gameplay experience for players due to the sluggishness of the game. Even in the wilderness, the fps might jump back up to 60, but you’ll still feel the game stuttering at times.

“In Dragon’s Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate,” a Capcom representative told IGN. “We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”

Too Many Microtransactions

Microtransactions took over online gaming, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 is no different. Although the game costs 70$ the 41$ on DLC left a bad taste in players’ mouths.

Some of the DLC don’t really impact the experience much, and you can get away without ever considering buying them. They’re more tailored for players who want to cut some corners or consume less time.

You can’t alter your characters’ appearance without Art of Metamorphosis, which has become a controversial microtransaction since it’s difficult to find in-game. This caused backlash from players, which forced Capcom to upping the number of Art of Metamorphosis at all Pawn Guilds to 99.

Portcrystal allows you to fast travel in-game, which buys you a lot of time. This also caused more infuriation from players, even though you’re still capable of fast traveling without the need to spend money.

The Wakestones are probably the most important in-game, allowing you to revive yourself or pawns, which can be crucial in-game mechanics.

It’s important to note that these DLCs can only purchased once per account, so you can’t buy as many as you’d want to gain too much of an advantage.

Unfulfilling Story

Many players felt the story was unfinished and lacked a lot of content compared to the first game. After a long wait, it seems Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t have all the Lore that players were eagerly waiting for.

A lot of the scenes felt rushed, and when the storylines felt like they were picking up, it ended pretty quickly, giving players an unsatisfying feeling.
