How to Play
The Blaine aggro deck uses Rapidash and Ninetales for early aggressive attacks, getting knockouts before opponents get their strategy in place. With the help of Blaine, you can pump the damage of your Pokemon’s attack, making sure you can knock out a higher HP Power quickly.
X Speed is valuable to switch between your Pokemon without paying the 1 Energy retreat cost. This makes it more challenging for opponents to get knockouts and enables you to get knockouts on high HP targets by getting Ninetales into the Active spot in place of Rapidash. The 1 copy of Red Card can mess up the opponent’s hand, dropping them on resources. If they have 4 cards in hand, it’s usually worth going for the Red Card play.
Let’s take a look at each Pokemon!
Early Rapidash
Rapidash can join early into the game and start attacking with Fire Mane, dealing 40 damage to the opponent’s Active Pokemon. Rapidash only needs 1 Fire Energy to attack, so you don’t have to commit too much to it.
Ninetales Smacks
Ninetales has less HP than Rapidash, but it’s the real threat that can knock out the opponent’s Pokemon faster. Ninetales‘ Flamethrower needs 2 Fire Energy to activate, so it’s not too difficult to activate. However, every time you attack with Flamethrower, you’ll discard 1 Fire Energy. So to continue attacking with Ninetales, you have to keep attaching a Fire Energy to Ninetales.
The Supporter card Blaine is the main reason why this deck works. It gives Ninetales or Rapidash +30 damage to their attacks, making it easier to get knockouts on high HP targets. Rapidash will be able to deal 70 damage with Fire Mane, whereas Ninetales will deal 120 damage with Flamethrower.
Other Pokemon
Magmar can be added to the Blaine aggro deck, giving you another attacker that synergizes with Blaine. He’s a Basic Pokemon, so you don’t need to Evolve, and can deal 50 damage with Magma Punch.
Blaine Aggro Weaknesses
- The Blaine aggro deck needs to crush opponents in the early game or it’ll quickly fall behind, incapable of keeping up with the Pokemon ex’s high HP and damage output.
- Rapidash and Ninetales have low HP making it easy for Pokemon with high damage attacks to one-shot them.
- Water-type Pokemon can be a nightmare with the extra damage they deal.
