Best One Piece OP09 Tournament Decks – One Piece Card Game

Unsure what to play in OP09 One Piece card game tournaments? Well, we got you covered with lists of decks that performed in major OP09 tournaments in the East!

Are you considering joining an OPTCG tournament? Unsure what the meta decks are? Which lists are winning those major events? Don’t fret, I’ve got you covered! The decklists I’ll share in this article have top-cut major tournaments in OP09 meta!

Donquixote Doflamingo

Blue Doflamingo is the strongest choice going into OP09 tournaments and you’ll likely see many players bringing the Blue {Seven Warlords of the Sea} deck. It beats most meta decks and can be difficult to counter it thanks to its aggression and value generation.

How does the deck work?

This deck uses Leader Doffy‘s effect to play out a {Seven Warlords of the Sea} Character from the top of your deck. You’re using 3 Don to play a 4-cost Character, and two of those Don are used to increase your Leader’s attack Power. We’re creating a high-power attack with the Leader and playing out a Character at the same time.

To make sure we have the right 4-cost {Seven Warlords of the Sea} Character at the top of our deck, Perona or Buggy can rearrange the top cards in our deck, gaining the most out of our Leader Doffy‘s attack. Jinbe lets us go wide on the field, developing an extra Character that creates opportunities for more aggressive turns.

Some lists are still running 10-cost Kaido, mostly for the draw power and a high-cost threat, difficult to remove from the field. It can be a good option against the mirror matchup, gaining a resource edge over opponents.

Purple Monkey D.Luffy

Purple Luffy gained another boost in performance in the OP09 meta, becoming one of the best choices to bring. The ramp deck can play their high-cost Characters on earlier turns, allowing it to create pressure on the field that forces opponents to find answers to deal with.

How does this deck work?

Purple Luffy can start ramping on turn 2, allowing you to play higher-cost characters on earlier turns. You lose a life card when activating Leader Luffy’s effect, so play more defensively to protect your Life cards from opponent attacks. 4-cost Bon Clay and 5-cost Eutass”Captain”Kid help out with the ramp game plan, making sure you play high-cost Characters earlier and you don’t fall behind on your strategy when you deramp.

This list has the {Straw Hat Crew} package, using Zoro-Juurou and San-Gorou for the extra resources. 7-cost Luffytaro is the mid-game carry, allowing you to play one of your 5-cost or less Purple {Straw Hat Crew} Characters along with him. This lets you go wider on the field and forces opponents to play more defensively. 7-cost Sanji is a better choice if you’re trying to KO one of the opponent’s 6-cost or less Characters. You can rest that Character and use Sanji’s Rush attack to KO it or at least force Counter cards from the opponent’s hand.

9-cost Charlotte Linlin and 9-cost Monkey D.Luffy are the late-game carries in the deck, both with powerful effects that you’ll want to use in different scenarios. 9-cost Charlotte Linlin is great for removing a Character from play and gaining a Life card, whereas 9-cost Monkey D.Luffy draws you a card and has the Rush attack to either KO a rested Character or go for an aggressive Leader attack.

Black Rob Lucci

Black Rob Lucci is still a consistent deck in OP09 meta, mainly because it can go head-to-head with the popular Blue Doflamingo deck. The control Black deck has a great matchup table, only truly struggling against Black Yellow Luffy.

How does the deck work?

The Rob Lucci deck uses cost-reduction cards like Helmeppo, Tempest Kick, and Ice Age to put Characters in range for your KO cards to remove them. 4-cost Rob Lucci is the main control card you’ll rely on in this deck, capable of KOing two targets. You can also play Rob Lucci from Trash through Spandine or Geko Moria. 3-cost Brook and 7-cost Jack are other ways you can KO Characters. Jack is one of the strongest removal Characters as he’s tough for opponents to remove and you reactivate his effect every turn.

Gecko Moria is the strongest play for this deck, developing multiple Characters on the field. The plan is to play Gecko Moria and get Rebecca from the trash. Rebecca then plays Spandine, who in turn will play Rob Lucci to KO two Characters in one turn.

This list has 9-cost Kaido, a late-game removal play that trashes instead of KOs. This is powerful against decks with 5-cost Sabo‘s KO immunity like Black Yellow Luffy or Black Rob Lucci. 9-cost Kaido has to trash one of your cards to activate his effect but will also force opponents to trash a card from their hand, bleeding them out of resources.

Black Marshal D.Teach

Marshall D.Teach isn’t an easy deck to pilot correctly, and in the early OP09 meta, players weren’t too sure if this Leader would keep up with the top performers. Fast forward a couple of weeks later, Black Teach is crushing the competitive OPTCG scene and top-cutting major tournaments.

How does the deck work?

Marshall D.Teach reigns as one of the strongest Black control decks in OP09 meta. This deck shuts down all your On Play effects, so you have to build it differently. We’re avoiding any card with an On Play effect, relying on Finger Pistol, Black Hole, and Doc Q to KO the opponent’s Characters. Marshall D. Teach can prevent opponents from activating their On Play effects, but you’ll have to trash a card to activate it. You’ll usually activate the effect on turns where you expect the opponent will want to use those On Play cards the most. This will completely shut them down from playing out their strategy, setting the stage for a powerful upcoming turn on your side. If they rely On Play effect to KO your Characters, then it can put them in an awkward situation.

The list has multiple cost-reduction cards to help put things in range to remove. Laboon and Van Augur are the best cost reducers in your list that also pose offensive pressure. Speaking of offensive pressure, Jesus Burgess is one of your toughest attackers. He can’t be KO’d by effects and will gain +1,000 Power for every 4 cards in your trash.

10-cost Marshall D. Teach is this deck’s strongest play, letting you negate the effect of the opponent’s Leader and one of their Characters. He’s also a high-power blocker, creating a wall to block one attack and protect your Leader.

Black Yellow Monkey D.Luffy

Black Yellow Luffy is still holding its own in OP09 meta, even though the deck didn’t receive any new support in OP09’s release. This is a tough deck to fully master, minor mistakes will cost you the game or ruin your combo turn. It’s capable of crushing Black Rob Lucci and can keep up with the popular Blue Doflamingo.

How does the deck work?

The Black Yellow Luffy deck wants to drop to 0 Life cards to activate the Leader effect, placing two Adult brothers (Luffy, Ace, or Sabo) in your Life area, faceup. Afterward, you want to play the kid brothers and activate their effects, letting you play their older versions from the Life area and onto the field. This builds up a stronger field and boosts your Leader’s Power for offensive and defensive value.

On 10 Don, you’re looking to play Gecko Moria, cheating out two of the kid brothers from the trash and playing out their adult versions. This is the strongest turn for you, developing three Characters and gaining +4,000 Power on Leader Luffy.

Red Shanks

Red Shanks is a solid contender in OP09 meta, keeping up with the top meta decks like Blue Doflamingo. Going into an OP09 tournament, you should expect some players to be on the Red Leader, trying to control the field and stall out games.

How does the deck work?

Red Shanks’s effect is great for defense dropping the Power of one of the opponent’s attackers, demanding less Counter resources from you. This helps you stall out games until your higher-cost Characters start dropping in. 7-cost Edward Newgate, 7-cost Benn.Beckman, and 8-cost Silvers Rayleigh can KO opponent’s Characters, weakening their control of the field and their offensive pressure.

10-cost Shanks drops the Power of all of the opponent’s Characters by -1,000, making it even harder for them to get their attacks through, especially if they have low Power attackers.

Green Jewelry Bonney

Green Bonney deck is a defensive wall, forcing games to stretch out where both players will be relying on their late-game win conditions. It’s a great deck to combat the Doffy and Enel players but will struggle against Black Lucci.

How does the deck work?

This is a stall deck that uses Leader Bonney‘s effect to rest the opponent’s Leader or one of their Characters from attacking, slowing down their aggression. This requires you to save 1 Don for your defensive turn to activate Bonney’s effect. Cavendish gives you extra Don, making it easier for you to activate Leader effect and maintain your field development.

Hody Jones is the main aggressor resting two of the opponent’s Characters, letting you choose between either KOing those Characters or attacking the Leader. This list has the Fortress strategy with 8-cost Eustass”Captain”Kid and 2-cost Rosinante, which has become a popular choice among players in tournaments.

Yellow Enel

If you’ve been a Yellow Enel player since OP05 days, then you’re in luck, the Yellow deck continues to perform in OP09 meta. The main reason Yellow Enel remains a consideration in OP09 meta is its ability to beat the likes of Blue Doflamingo and Black Yellow Luffy, two popular choices among players.

How does the deck work?

Yellow Enel is a control deck that tries to starve opponent and KO their Characters with Gedatsu, Monkey.D.Luffy, Nami, Kingdom Come, and Yamato.

Leader Enel, Yamato, and Portgas.D.Ace giving you a Life card creates more resource value and forces more attacks from the opponent to win the game. The longer the game takes the more likely the opposing player will run out of steam, eventually not having the attack power to pose any threat.

Blue Nami

Blue Nami is a great budget tournament deck to beat the likes of Black Rob Lucci, Yellow Enel, Black Teach, Black Yellow Luffy, and Green Bonney. However, it struggles against the popular Blue Doflamingo and PLuffy as they’ll aggro it down before it mills itself.

How does this deck Work

Blue Nami plays the One Piece card game differently, instead of focusing on damaging the opponent’s Leader, it takes a defensive stance, countering attacks with the many protection Events it has in the list. At the same time, Nami players are trying to fulfill Leader Nami‘s win condition, which reads “
When your deck is reduced to 0, you win the game instead of losing, according to the rules.”

So the longer the game takes, the better the odds are for you to win the game as you draw and trash cards, aiming to get your deck empty as fast as possible.

Black Smoker

Black Smoker is holding up decently in OP09 meta and you should expect players to bring this deck, although it won’t be as popular as Black Rob Lucci and Black Teach. The control deck can keep up with Blue Doflamingo, making it a solid choice among players.

How does this deck Work

Black Smoker is a control deck that can KO one Character each turn. 5-cost Tashigi is the strongest play in the mid-game, allowing you to shift the game in your favor. The list also has Brook and Jack as other KO options to keep control of the field. 8-cost Gecko Moria is one of your strongest plays, offering extra value by playing Characters from the trash and developing multiple Characters in one turn.

Leader Smoker has a built-in cost-reduction effect, but the list has tons of cost-reducers like Helmeppo, Hina, and Ice Age, to help you set up your KO effects.
