Heya everyone! Today, we’re taking a look at the decks from the OP12.5 Miyagi Championship Series Season 1, at least the lists that were made public so far! This is an OP12 tournament format with the new Starter decks legal! This means we have decks like Blue Buggy, Black Purple Luffy, and Black Teach as strong contenders in the meta.
First Place Green Roronoa Zoro
Green Roronoa Zoro takes first place in the Miyagi Championship, proving it’s one of the best decks in OP12. Lists among players have looked different, mostly depending on what they’re trying to counter with their list. If they want a strong finisher against Blue Purple and Green Purple Luffy, they’ll add Hody Jones to the deck, but if they prefer having a stronger mirror matchup, then the 4-cost Roronoa Zoro has been a great addition because of his immunity to Slash attackers. This makes him exceptionally hard for the opposing player to remove, guaranteeing you keep an attacker in play to keep the pressure going.
Green Roronoa Zoro thrives on attacking multiple times in one turn, using your Leader effect alongside cards like Kuina and 5-cost Tashigi, you can go for a heavy Leader attack on the opponent’s rested Character before re-standing your Leader for a second attack on the opponent’s Leader or one of their 8-cost or more Characters. You’re controlling the field and threatening their Life cards, slowly putting them low enough until you can plan your winning turn.
8-cost Mihawk is the strongest play in this deck, enabling you to develop two Characters in one turn, going wide, and planning a more aggressive upcoming turn. With Luffy Is the Man Who Will Become the King of Pirates!!! you can re-stand your Leader to attack the opponent’s Leader again and set up the finisher.
Second Place Red Green Smoker
Red Green Smoker makes second place! This Leader synergizes with Punk Hazard and 7,000 Power or more Characters. Your Punk Hazard Characters gain a +1,000 Power boost during your opponent’s turn, making them harder to remove through attacks or certain removal plays.
As for RG Smoker’s second effect, you get to set 2 of your Don as Active if you have a 7,000 Power or more Character in play. Combined with your 5-cost Smoker, you’re not setting 3 Don as Active in one turn, enabling you to go for heavier attacks or develop an additional Character to plan a more aggressive upcoming turn.
Hody Jones is how we increase the temperature, going for an immediate Rush attack while resting two of the opponent’s Characters or Don. Hody Jones is great to remove blockers from the equation, or rest Active Don to shut down Counter events.
We also have Gum Gum Mole Pistol as a control too, enabling us to remove the likes of Sanji & Pudding, shutting down GP Luffy’s main carry plan.
This list has Koushirou, Bonney, and Mihawk as blockers, so you’re able to defend your Leader or valuable Characters from attackers. Koushirou is also protects your Smoker from removal effects, ensuring you get to use your Banish keyword to try and trash an opponent’s Life card.
Top 4 Yellow Kid
At the end of your turn, Yellow Kid can re-stand one of your 3 to 8 cost Supernova Characters and gives them the blocker keyword. This turns Characters like Basil Hawkins, Trafalgar Law, and Eustass”Captain”Kid into defensive blockers, protecting your Leader from one of the opponent’s attacks.
The plan is to keep the opponent’s side of the field in check and rely on your Basil Hawkins and 8-cost Kid to trash the opponent’s Life cards, cutting down on their resources and putting them in a riskier spot for your attackers.
Kikunojo, Kuma, and Trafalgar Law are perfect to prolong the game, giving you a Life card, which forces the opposing player to commit additional attacks to win the game. This buys you enough time until you can line up the winning turn with your high-power attackers.
Thanks to your Leader’s effect, you can attack with Law or Kid and still have them Active at the end of your turn with a Blocker keyword to protect you during your defensive turn.
