Green Dracule Mihawk Deck Guide – One Piece Card Game

Heya everyone! OP14 brought the 7 Warlords of the Sea Leaders to the game, each with unique abilities and their own supporting cards. Green Dracule Mihawk quickly became one of the strongest decks to play in the One Piece Card game, gaining an edge against Strike attribute Leaders like Green Roronoa Zoro and the additional Don he gains allows for heavier attacks that burn through the opponents’ resources.

This deck thrives on setting up heavy swings while also slowing down the opponent’s pace, either by reducing their Character’s Power or preventing them from attacking, making it harder for the opponent to line up a winning turn.

Leader

Dracule Mihawk

Green Dracule Mihawk is a 5 Life card Leader that strives against <Slash> attribute Leaders. If you go up against a Slash Leader, Mihawk gains a +1,000 Power, becoming a 6,000 Power Leader. This allows you to go for heavier swings to threaten Life cards or KO rested Characters, but it also means Countering out of attacks will become easier, demanding fewer resources.

As for Mihawk’s Activate: Main effect, there has to be a 5-cost or more Character in play to activate it, letting you rest one of your cards to set 3 Don as Active. You then cannot play any Characters anymore, so the Don you gained will be used to boost your attack Power, activate Character effects, or play events.

Any card you have Active can be rested to activate Mihawk’s effect. This means we can target our Stage Coffin Boat, a Don, a Leader, or a Character. We’ll usually avoid resting our Leader for the effect, as we don’t want to waste an attack, but Stage is a great target to rest. Additionally, we have multiple cards in this list, like Shanks, that benefit from getting rested, so they can be targets for Mihawk’s effect to trigger their own effects.

How to Play

Stage

Coffin Boat

On Play, Coffin Boat can draw you a card if your Leader is Dracule Mihawk, so we’re not losing on resources by having the Stage in play. We’ll continue to gain value from Coffin Boat throughout the rest of the game. At the end of your turn, we can set one of our rested Don as Active, making it easier for us to play Counter events or activate certain Character effects like the 5-cost Tashigi.

Additionally, Coffin Boat will be a great target for Leader Mihawk or 5-cost Tashigi to rest, giving us a card to rest to activate their effects instead of having to rest valuable Don cards.

Early Searcher

Perona
Kid & Killer

The 1-cost Perona is perfect for searching for our Slash attribute Characters and setting up our upcoming turns. We can look for cards like Tashigi, Shanks, and 9-cost Mihawk, making sure we find the right piece we’re missing for our strategy. Perona can also search for Green Events, so The Billion-fold World Trichiliocosm and Demon Aura Nine Sword Style Asura Blades Drawn Dead Man's Game are cards Perona can draw for us.

Later in the game, Perona can be used to either KO a low-power Character your opponent is generating value from, or we can rest her through the Leader effect to gain the 3 Active Don.

Kid & Killer looks at the top 5 cards of the deck for a Supernova-type card. So we can draw the likes of Bonney, Law, or Bepo & Law.

Heavy Mid Game

Tashigi

The 5-cost Tashigi is nothing other than a beast in this deck, which we’ll be relying on her for heavy mid-game swings and forcing the opposing player to burn Counter resources. Tashigi can’t be easily removed from the field by an opponent’s effect, as her ability allows you to rest one of your cards to keep her in play. Depending on the matchup we’re up against, we can keep one of our cards as Active and have Tashigi rest it if the opponent tries to remove her.

Additionally, Tashigi’s Activate: Main effect lets you rest 2 cards to gain a +2,000 Power boost that sticks on your opponent’s turn. We’re turning Tashigi into an 8,000 Power Character that can only be removed through attacks. Whenever possible, we’ll protect Tashigi from an attack, making sure we keep a heavy attacker in play to get more attack pressure out of her.

Slow Them Down

Perona
Jewelry Bonney

The 5-cost Perona can be used to prevent two of the opponent’s 5-cost or less Characters from being rested until the end of your opponent’s turn. Perona’s effect is valuable to slow down the opponent’s upcoming turn, having less attacks to worry about and saving you from playing as many Counter cards. On top of that, Perona’s effect can be used aggressively, targeting 5-cost or less Blockers to prevent the opponent from blocking your attacks, allowing your heavy hitters to strike down their Leader and potentially plan a winning turn.

Although it’s tempting to hold off Perona until the opponent has 2 Characters worth targeting, 1 target is usually enough for Perona to see value.

Your opponent will likely avoid KOing Perona, as her On KO effect lets you cheat out a 5-cost or less Green Character from your hand, so you get to play another Perona or a Tashigi.

As for 5-cost Bonney, she can prevent one of the opponent’s rested Don cards or Characters from becoming Active, slowing down their upcoming turn by either preventing an attack or halting them from making certain plays.

Shanks

The 7-cost Shanks has 9,000 Power, capable of going for heavy swings that can secure a Life card or a KO on a rested Character. When Shanks is rested, he activates two of his effects. The first is during your turn, letting you rest one of the opponent’s Characters with 7,000 base Power or less. This can shut down a blocker or rest a Character you’re planning to attack and potentially KO.

As for Shanks’ second effect, it activates during the opponent’s turn if he’s rested, giving all of the opponent’s Characters a -1,000 Power reduction. This weakens their Characters, making it harder for the opponent to get attacks through.

Since Shanks thrives on being rested, we can use Leader Mihawk’s effect to rest him on the turn he’s played. Triggering Shanks’ effects to gain immediate value out of him and then gain the 3 Active Don. Later in the game, we can continue using Shanks’ effect when he goes for the attack, which can be massive to remove a blocker from the equation.

Going Wide

Trafalgar Law

Trafalgar Law is a 6,000 Power Character, capable of gaining the Blocker keyword when you’re down to 1 Life card. The Blocker keyword can come in clutch to protect us from an attack, making sure we can push for an additional turn to win the game. When played, Law can cheat out a 5-cost or less Character rested by returning one Character to your hand. This means we’ll likely be returning cards like Perona or Kikunojo to play a rested Character like Tashigi, Perona, or Bonney. You’re essentially developing two Characters in one turn and activating your 5-cost’s effect for the additional value.

Late Game Plays

Dracule Mihawk

The 9-cost Mihawk is one of our strongest plays to slow down the opponent’s pace and buy us more time. He’s a 10,000 Power Character, which we rely on for a stronger defensive turn. During your turn, when 9-cost Mihawk is rested, you can prevent 1 of the opponent’s 9-cost or less Character from being rested. This shuts down the ability for the opposing player to use that Character as a blocker or attacker, which can be frustrating for them, especially since Mihawk’s effect can be reactivated every time you rest him.

On the turn he’s played, we’ll use our Leader effect to rest 9-cost Mihawk, immediately getting value out of his effect to shut down one of the opponent’s Characters. Additionally, during the opponent’s turn, 9-cost Mihawk will let us trash a card from hand to gain a +2,000 Power on one of our Characters or Leader. This adds to our defensive layer, letting us trash dead cards in hand and gain +2,000 Power off of them to protect us from an attack and push for additional turns.

Shanks

9-cost Shanks is a massive control card, capable of KOing a rested Character regardless of its cost or power. In the late game, this can be a major board swing, changing the game in your favor as you get to remove an opponent’s win condition without having to attack it.

Shanks remains on the field as a heavy attacker, having 11,000 Power, making him a tough target to remove and counter his attack.

Law & Bepo

The 10-cost Law & Bepo first perfectly in this deck since we technically aren’t tapping out of Don thanks to Leader Mihawk’s effect. When played, Law & Bepo can rest one of the opponent’s Characters, and that Character will not become Active during the opponent’s upcoming turn. We’re essentially shutting down a threat, lowering the opponent’s offensive pressure.

Additionally, Law & Bepo has a second effect, which only activates if your opponent has 2 rested Characters. Since we’re resting 1 Character with Law & Bepo, we’ll only need them to have one other rested Character to activate the second effect, giving our Leader a +2,000 Power boost that sticks until the end of your opponent’s upcoming turn.

We’re going for a heavier swing with our Leader, while making it harder for the opponent to get their attacks through and take Life cards. In the late game, a +2,000 Power boost can go a long way in protecting our Leader and giving us an additional turn to win the game.

+2,000 Counters

Kikunojo
Roronoa Zoro

Kikunojo is a +2,000 Counter, which can be an option to play to use as a target to rest. Since Kikunojo can set herself as Active at the end of your turn, your opponent can’t KO her through an attack and will have to rely on a removal effect to deal with her.

Zoro is a searchable Supernova +2,000 Character and can act as a blocker when needed.

Spiderweb

The Billion-fold World Trichiliocosm gives our Leader or one of our Characters a +2,000 Power boost, and if you have 8 or more rested cards, you get an additional +2,000 Power boost on that target.

Demon Aura Nine Sword Style can be used aggressively, resting two of the opponent’s Characters and Don, which can shut down blockers and Active Don that can be used for Counter Events. This enables a strong attack turn to potentially win the game. You can also use it as a Counter Event, giving your Leader a +3,000 Power boost to protect yourself from an attack.

I Know You’re Strong can prevent two of the opponent’s 7-cost or less Characters from becoming Active on the upcoming turn. It can also be played as a Counter event to give your Leader a +3,000 Power boost.

Spiderweb gives your Leader or one of your Characters a +4,000 Power, then lets you set one of your Characters as Active. In this deck, we usually want to set a blocker like Law as Active to protect us from an opponent’s attack. This can be a massive defensive play in the late game, preventing the opposing player from setting up the final attack to win the game.

Other Cards to Include

Strive to Surpass me Roronoa Zoro!!!
Roronoa Zoro
Kin'emon
Donquixote Doflamingo

  • Strive to Surpass me, Roronoa Zoro!!! can be a strong Counter event, resting one of your cards as an additional cost to give your Leader or one of your Characters a +4,000 Power boost. Its trigger effect can also rest an opponent’s Character with a base power of 7,000 or less. It can shut down an attacker or a blocker.
  • Zoro is a 4-cost Blocker that can attack and set himself as Active at the end of your turn, remaining a blocker to protect you from an attack.
  • Kin’emon is an early play, setting 3 Don as Active on the turn he’s played. This can be useful on turn 2 to go for a heavy attack, especially if your opponent’s Leader is 6,000 Power. If Kin’emon gets KO’d, you get to rest one of the opponent’s cards, which might force your opponent to play differently if they plan to KO Kin’emon.
  • 10-cost Doflamingo can keep 3 attackers from becoming Active on the upcoming turn, including your opponent’s Leader. You can potentially shut down your opponent’s aggression entirely, buying you an extra turn to plan your winning play.

Shimotsuki Kouzaburou
Humandrill

  • Shimotsuki Kouzaburou can rest a 2-cost, coming in handy if your opponent has a blocker. You can also KO a 1-cost Character with Kouzaburou, ideal if your opponent is generating value through that 1-cost Character.
  • We can play Humandrill and use Leader effect to rest him, letting us activate his effect to rest an opponent’s Character with a cost of 4 or less. Ideal for dealing with a blocker or a key Character.

General Tips

  • Protect key Characters. Characters like Tashigi, Shanks, and 9-cost Mihawk are massive threats the longer they stick in play. We usually want to protect them from attacks for as long as possible.
  • Order matters. When going for the 10-cost Law & Bepo, we need to have at least 1 rested Character on the opponent’s side, and Shanks can help us guarantee that, so we’ll activate Shanks first, then go for Law & Bepo to gain the +2,000 Power boost.
  • Identify when we can ignore the field. Since we can keep the opponent’s Characters from attacking us, we can shift our focus to attack their Leader directly, ignoring board control and trying to go for the rush game.

Closing Words

Green Mihawk has quickly left its mark on OP14 meta, proving it’s one of the strongest new Leaders and will likely push out the popular Green Zoro deck. The Leader gaining a +1,000 Power boost against Zoro gives it a massive advantage in the matchup. This deck thrives on slowing down the opponent’s pace, buying itself enough time until it can set up a winning turn.
